diablo 3 - amazons

talk about anything related to amazons and diablo 3 here.

so far there are only two classes announced...the barb and a new class...the witch doctor.

do you think there will be an amazon class?

if you look at some of the screenshots, you will notice that there are both male and female barbs...will blizzard do away with our favourite class? you can't have a male barb.

will they keep the same skills?

it looks like the barb's leap attack has been beefed up...what needs to be fixed/changed for zon skills?

i'm ready to trade my first born for diabloiii...please let there be zons in the game.

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

I would think there has to be a ranged class. Whether it is called Amazon or not is anyones guess. I hope it is. Right now there are only 5 classes. Someone is going to be left out until an expansion.

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

i hope it is the necro. the new class seems to duplicate many of the necro skills.

it gave me a happy feeling when i watched the gameplay video and could hear the familiar sound of bows twanging...i'll ignore the fact that it was skeleton archers shooting those bows and pretend the sound came from a bowazon.

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

I can't watch the movies right now. I am at our campsite tethered via my cell phone. Not much bandwidth. I'll watch it all tomorrow. I am pretty sure the Witch Doctor replaces the Necro. It sure sounds like it. We need a ranged character.

This makes me want to play ladder this season. But I have no items. :weep:

My new sig ---> Diablo 3

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

They have to have a class that can fit for bowazon in the first version. You simply can't ignore a whole class of weapons. Just like they will have sorcerers class as you can't ignore the need for an elemental caster.
The only question the remains is how they are going to group it. You could group the bowazon with the barbarian as it still is a weapon one can seriously specialise in. Group it with throwing weapon skills and you can have a valid class. Instead of the stupid warrior, you get a specialist killing machine that chooses it's time to go mele or to stay ranged.

P.S. I kind of thought we didn't have the need to start discussing things that won't lead to an end. Seems like I'm wrong.

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

I would think they'd keep the Amazon class.

Grouping Barbarians and Amazons would be a tad too much. They're two different types of fighters the way I see it. A tank with its shouts/melee skills (if they kept it along those lines which seems they did at this point) and then the more fragile, missile using type (I know, I'm seriously dismissing the spear and javelin skills atm :p)

Having seen the Witch Doctor... Don't you think he looks awfully like Necromancer and Druid combined? So that's a bit hope for us...

Meh, if they kick the amazons out I'll be truly disappointed. They're basically all I play. Played.

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

as long as ama and nec are there ill be happy, tbh they should get rid of palas+druids.

The amazon might well be renamed though, maybe a merge/come back with/of the rogue from diablo 1

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

cain's guards(both male) that party with the barb in the first game play video use bows...they have a fire type attack and it also looked like one of their arrows split to hit 2 targets.

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

I'd say that in diii there must be a character that use bows (and other ranged weapons) effectively. My vote goes for female version of barbarian, which I hope is going to be an amazon. Why? Because zons - as we know them from dii - are quite hard to be replaced with other balanced and innovative class. Ranger? Ok, maybe, but that'll be more assassin-like dude, with traps and hiding in the shadows. Amazons don't need stealth techniques, they need fat, lethal, easy-spammable bow to make the zon addicts smile in a vile way :fire:

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

Too true...

Anyway, my bet is there isn't going to be an Amazon, but there OFCOURSE will be a piece of flesh which you can equip with a bow :D
I'm sooo curious on what chars there will be

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

there will certainly be a ranged char of some sort, my hope is that the fire skills are a bit more useful.

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

Hmm, a large female warrior wielding a spear using a 'fend-like' skill with benefits from passives like 'iron skin'. Looks like there could be a way around the Fend bug. How about bow mastery?

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

Grouping Barbarians and Amazons would be a tad too much. They're two different types of fighters the way I see it. A tank with its shouts/melee skills (if they kept it along those lines which seems they did at this point) and then the more fragile, missile using type (I know, I'm seriously dismissing the spear and javelin skills atm :p)

Amazons are only fragile because we need so many dexterity to make our damage decent. Take the away or change it somehow to make it more effective in mele - i.e. in dungeons and dragon, dexterity is an important part of your defence rating.
Now I agree that putting them in the same class is a bad idea, though I don't think they already revealed how the class/skill/stats system will work, and I'm now try to give an example how you could merge a mele class and a ranged class in one build - the biggest problem might be combining in the elemental skills, though those can be for an other class.
P.S. note that I don't think they will do so, though it could.

Make for each class two large main skill tabs. For the barbarian this would be one with combat skills as we know them. The other one would be a merge between the warcries - of which most aren't used - and the masteries - you don't need a mastery for each class of weapons, and if you want them to chose, you can lets them change the mastery per skill.

Then you can have three smaller side branches of which they have to chose one. One side branch containing skills that allow the barbarian to go crazy like we know him now. A fearless warrior that jumps in battle. It contains skill to enlarge his damage output during battle. Skills like frenzy, something that enlarges their damage/life with each kill and this for the duration of the battle...
An other branch might be focussed on tankability. Containing skill like stun effects, concentrate etc. It still is a full mele warrior though it focusses more on defence then on pure killing power.
And the last branch can be one containing different ranged skills that on combination with the right gear/stats and skill from the masteries, is somewhat viable on its own. This branch has skill like multi shot, double thrown, strafe and even perhaps guided arrows/knifes or something.
The main focus of the branch is try and weaken the monsters enough so that when they are closes, the barbarian simply can kill them in a few strikes.

The reason why amazons don't play like this is because they don't have enough good defensive skills, they need an offensive stat distribution and if we be honest, they don't really have a great offensive skill for this type of play.
I hope they don't, though if they want to be original, I'd say that is original.

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

What if the skills you can use depend on the sex of the character you pick... In that case, you could have the Barbarian as we know it from now (and from the new game) in the male form and then the female barbarian could be our amazon who gets a bit different skills/skill tree(s) a good part of skills still overlapping with the male equivalent...

Because seriously, a female barbarian?!

Either way, I'm way too excited about it for my own good :D

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

I don't think they'll call it Amazon. A male amazon doesn't fit. A female barbarian is at least logical and we've seen them before in LoD.

Shame.

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

I would think they'd keep the Amazon class.

Meh, if they kick the amazons out I'll be truly disappointed. They're basically all I play. Played.

I think most of us here feel the same way. Amen to that.

Re: diablo 3 - amazons

Based on all I've read my hunch is our beloved Amazon will be transformed into a type of Ranger Character for D3. I am unsure if this Ranger Character will be a standalone class or a subset of the new Barbarian skill tree.

My hope is that the Ranger is a Classs unto itself and that I'm not limited to using a Bow only, as I like creating builds that use Javlins and Spears too. Thought Javlins and Spears don't really seem to be part of common Ranger Lore.

We'll see how it all turns out.

Fyi I hope I'm wrong and the Amazon Class does return, I just don't see how there could be "male" Amazons. :(
