Meet the Olympians threads are for showing off your character from the corresponding MFO. You can include whatever details you want; it's a chance to brag on your runner or just to show them off. 2022 Summer MFO sign up and progress thread is here, and the results thread is here.

I ran with two characters, one of them having two distinct set ups. I need to get readouts organized but will be posting shortly. Look forward to seeing everyone's posts!

As mentioned, I ran with two characters, a Poisonmancer and Pitzerker, with two different set ups on the Necro.

Poisonmancer
He started at Level 91 and finished up at Level 95:

From 91-94, he ran at p5, which necessitated the DWeb setup for extra power. I thought about prioritizing MF with 75 FCR setup, but ultimately the idea of so many runs with slow teleport was overridden. He ran like so:
  • Griffon's (pTopaz)
  • Enigma BP
  • DWeb (Ist) and 35 FCR Spirit
  • CtA and 35 FCR Spirit
  • 2/20 Amulet with 6 MF
  • Trang's Gloves
  • 50 MF War Traveler
  • Arachnid Mesh
  • 30 MF Nagelring / 10 FCR Ring with CR
Backpack had 40 MF Gheeds, 2 Skillers of Vita, and the best resist/MF SCs that I could pull together from my stash, which managed to get CR ~15 and LR barely positive. He was at risk from enchanted boss explosions, but >2000 life helped manage it, with only one death early on. MF was 462 at level 94, so he was still able to pack quite a bit on at p5. Still no 2/20 Necro circlet, so Griffon's remained the top choice there.

For 94-95, I decided to drop to p3, which allowed HotO setup, and a bump in MF and safety. Setup was the same, except Shako (Ist) and 40 MF Chance Guards swapped in, and three more MF SCs replacing one of the Skillers (could have dropped both, honestly). This set up resulted in comfortable runs and 545 MF total, and plenty powerful for p3 (or p1 for sure if I'd been maximizing running speed).

He pinged 95 on Thursday evening, when I had expected it to take most of the MFO, so I switched up to my Pitzerker for the final weekend.

Pitzerker
Midrian is the original Pitzerker from my 7x7+2. I hadn't really played him since I started my untwinked 99er quest, except 5 minutes last month in deciding characters for MFO. I had assumed he had a good map and was set up properly, and it took me a while to figure out neither was the case.

I have no idea what I had been thinking last I played him, but I assume he was rerolling maps. That doesn't explain why his life was ~2000, and his resists were in the negative, resulting in lots of big purples. I rolled a new map on Saturday after realizing his current was not good, and then I muddled through until yesterday morning before using a Token to rebalance with max Vita and upgrading his charms. Final setup was:
  • Shako (Cham)
  • Enigma LP
  • Grief (394) and PB (6 Ists)
  • Wizardspike (Ist) and Suicide Branch (Ist)
  • Highlord's
  • 40 MF Chance Guards
  • 50 MF War Traveler
  • Arachnid Mesh
  • 2x 30 MF Nagelring
Kill switch had 696 MF and cast switch had 576 MF. Backpack was 40 MF Gheeds and MF SCs (mix of resists and fine/steel), plus 3 with FHR to hit the first breakpoint. I tried out my 2/5 amulet with 25MF and Goldwrap, but that was on low vita spec and found Highlord's vastly superior. I plan to go back and try the amulet on the higher vita spec to see if it's a worthwhile tradeoff for the extra MF (I doubt it).

Midrian moved from just shy of 91.95 to 92.75 over the last weekend.

I wrote a bit about her actual gameplay last week.

She turned out to be as much of a contender as I could have hoped for; her final top-5 score was less than one point below that of the winner, m4ke's paladin!

Better yet, Baal gave her an Eschuta's Temper, the only class-specific weapon that was missing from my grail:

I ran with HC Pit Berserker in D2R. In comparison to my SC Berseker in 1.14 who has end-game level stuff, he is rather "budget" and his gear isn't exactly impressive.

As for build, that's where it gets interesting because even though in D2R 2.4 - for some reason I fail to understand - this build was actually buffed, with Find Potion being a Find Item synergy and both Howl and Battle Orders being Berserk Synergies. I originally intended to max both Find Item + Find Potion, but ended up not maxing the latter, resulting in a suboptimal skill point distribution.

Both Berserk synergies are especially helpful in HC. BO is obviously maxed, but high level Howl is also very good in HC (faster projectile speed and range), and it adds more damage than Blade Mastery (former Sword Mastery). I ended up with only 1 point in the latter. This came with other problems because my AR was noticeably bad, only exacerbated by the fact that I have crap MF charms in HC D2R.

I hope I'll be able to farm a torch soon and also get an anni, after which I will respec him to something like this:
  • 20 Berserk
  • 20 BO
  • 20 Find Potion
  • 20 Howl
  • Rest split between Mastery (10-15) and Find Item (5-10) for reasonable target FI% depending on exact gear/clvl etc
That should be better min-maxed with Find Item diminishing returns, while getting at least a decent boost in AR at the expense of only some ~5% FI in comparison to my current build.

He was plenty safe for HC in any case, with around 4.7k life after I included some life charms to feel extra comfy.

MF was 602/478 across the switches. AR was rather low at 5.6k (hence the above plan).

All in all, he worked well enough really, glad this build is now HC viable as it will help a lot in my D2R activities.

As I remarked in the other thread, he was 1-2 seconds slower on average than the Furyzon (some due to my sloppy gameplay--never played a Berserker before this), but farmed qualifiers at a rate of 1.67x per run more than the Amazon did, so he was definitely a more efficient character.

Since he was a lower level character (starting at 87), I tried to prioritize AR, and had around 15,500 AR against undead after all was said and done. I probably could have gone lower on this, but was worried I'd slow my runtimes, and 500%+ MF seemed liked plenty.
 
Update: I ran a bit with Midrian using a caster ammy (found a 2/9 one with 27 MF to better the 2/5 with 25 MF) and Goldwrap. I also overhauled the charms, pulling out a few Good Luck resist ones from other characters and otherwise swapping in only 7 MF ones. I left 3 open spots in Inventory for picking (will start getting SCs, GCs, Rals and Flawless Amethysts going forward), and he has 5 SCs that are 6MF that could be upgraded (3 give CR which is nice to have). With that setup, his MF numbers are 774/654 with high CR and ~15 LR. There are a few more times were boss or champ doesn't drop immediately, where I think the critical chance from HLR would one-hit. I'll have to take a look at MF breakpoints to decide if the 57 MF is worth it for slightly longer killing speed.
 
This is the second MFO that I entered at the first was somewhere around 2011! It was fun and I particularly enjoyed the banter. I think we need a winter MFO this January. While I didn’t really expect Tyrael’s Might it would have been nice if I had found any one of the 39 items, I needed to complete myself grail. That’s probably the biggest disappoint of the MFO.

I decided to run Baal with my Wolfbarb ARGH, who started at level 91 with 403%MF.

I ran P1 till run 80 when I started running P3 for killing Baal. About run 130 I decided to switch back to Laying of hands to decrease the time it took to kill Baal.
I made 145 runs and found a total of 199 S&U items, 173 from Baal and 26 from the waves. When you pull out the duplicates, like 6 Sigon’s gloves, there were only 140 S&U items with 125 from Baal.

I found a total of 20 qualifiers with 18 of them coming from Baal. With the exception of Bul-Kathos’ Sacred Charge all of them were under 10 points. In fact, the week before the MFO I found 5 more items that would have been qualifiers and all 5 of them were under 10 points.

On my very first run I found Mavina’s Caster and it ended up my number 4 ranked item. And on my last run I found Stoneraven for my number 3 item. The Bul-Kathos sword came on run 60.

Best nonqualifiers, an eth Titans with 195% Ed a jewel from Baal that I will spend a bunch of gems on tryin to get a really good jewel and this large charm:

Meet jimsfwind_AYAYA your next MFO champion! This MFO was used as an excuse to level up a druid for my ultimate passive farmer I've been working on getting gear for on-and-off for 3 years. So far that gear has yet to be acquired.

Created only a few days before the MFO started with a dream of luckboxing a Tyrael's to win an untwinked MFO, he began his runs by questing, because he was still in nightmare when mfo started :D

Initially, he was meant to run maGGot lair level 3, but upon arrival at level 65 it was taking at least half an hour just to get there, and to my dismay I discovered the boss packs spawn like an act 1 cave level 2: very few of them. After watching my mercenary fruitlessly poke at scarabs for a few hours, it was determined that in such a weak state, tornado would unfortunately be necessary.

So on to the Ancient Tunnels you might think. But you would be wrong! jimsfwind_AYAYA is a maGGot farmer, and can't have that horrible Lost City waypoint enabled just begging for misclicks when going to Far Oasis. So he took the long walk to the Mausoleum.

Dismay again! So few bosses spawn in here! After clearing the whole area, which was shockingly large, he encountered only two bosses near the entrance, and the superunique in the treasure room. From levels 65->75 he ran tirelessly through the cold plains to kill only 1-3 bosses near the entrance over and over.

Aha! Level 75, and zero qualifiers have dropped. It is now Monday, four days into the tournament! Alas, poor jimsfwind_AYAYA's dreams of being a maGGot farmer are crushed, and he now enabled the Lost City waypoint.

Conveniently, his very first AT map has the treasure room tile adjacent to the entrance, so he does not have to run far to find a boss. So counting boss spawns for 100 runs he averaged exactly 3 boss spawns per run down the hallway. And run he did. For about 35 more hours.

Over the course of time, he upgraded several gear slots. Why is his name jimsfwind_AYAYA? He is a wind druid, so instead of jimsfriend he is jimsfWIND and who doesn't love a good AYAYA suffix to their character name?
 
BerzaKaR is of course named after berserk in a Japanese style. Right after I discover Pitzerker, this very unique and niche character immediately become my favorite so this Barb is indeed born to be a dedicated Pitzerker.

I considered myself a semi-casual player so never try very hard to improve my efficiency. It was about 2.2 at the beginning. Then I decided to step out of comfort zone this year by participating the MFO. I thought this will be a good time to test where's my limit so I practice quite a bit before event started. Got a map where my efficiency started out at ~1.8. I thought after I got more familiar with the map I would maybe improve to about 1.7~ so I stayed with this map. Below is how my map looked.

Right during MFO period I found out that my efficiency, instead of improve, only drop worse due to tiredness of long period run. IDing items also took additional time. I see really no room for efficiency improvement. I play a bit PVP on D2R Battle.net and I'm quite confident that my name-locking skill is not that awful to be the main reason so I started to think there might be something wrong with this map. Average boss packs according to Oskros' run counter is 8.34 so shouldn't be THAT bad. Then I found a post I believe is from @ResTTe mentioned that ideal map is a 4 tiles map with 8+ packs. Meanwhile my map is a 6 tiles map. I think that explain :) Not aware that it is possible to spawn 8+ packs on a 4 tiles map!

I'm really digging all the builds! Great write-ups everyone!

Right during MFO period I found out that my efficiency, instead of improve, only drop worse due to tiredness of long period run.
I had this experience as well using a Berserker barb for Pindle. Pindle is pretty simple, not like the Pits, but I had one night where I didn't sleep because of other reasons and the next day my runtimes were terrible!

BerzaKaR is of course named after berserk in a Japanese style. Right after I discover Pitzerker, this very unique and niche character immediately become my favorite so this Barb is indeed born to be a dedicated Pitzerker.

I considered myself a semi-casual player so never try very hard to improve my efficiency. It was about 2.2 at the beginning. Then I decided to step out of comfort zone this year by participating the MFO. I thought this will be a good time to test where's my limit so I practice quite a bit before event started. Got a map where my efficiency started out at ~1.8. I thought after I got more familiar with the map I would maybe improve to about 1.7~ so I stayed with this map. Below is how my map looked.



Right during MFO period I found out that my efficiency, instead of improve, only drop worse due to tiredness of long period run. IDing items also took additional time. I see really no room for efficiency improvement. I play a bit PVP on D2R Battle.net and I'm quite confident that my name-locking skill is not that awful to be the main reason so I started to think there might be something wrong with this map. Average boss packs according to Oskros' run counter is 8.34 so shouldn't be THAT bad. Then I found a post I believe is from @ResTTe mentioned that ideal map is a 4 tiles map with 8+ packs. Meanwhile my map is a 6 tiles map. I think that explain :) Not aware that it is possible to spawn 8+ packs on a 4 tiles map!

So this is my final data for the MFO from run counter:

Adjeff 1.87 with 55% hork.

BerzaKaR set up is quite standard ffs setup. Grief, 6 isted PB, Cham'ed Shako, Highlord, with Ist'ed Suicide branch and HOTO on swap. MF% is 727/577. Detail breakdown as below:

Pit map generation is weird. To me the general rule is to find as small map as you can get with as many packs as you can get and with no backtracking. It's easier to search for that type and evaluate it than to check every map you roll, learn where bosses spawn and see if you can get good efficiency numbers on it. You can always roll a map like @ffs did on his barb when we were pushing the efficiency some time ago. It just looks like a more complicated way of doing it to me. On the other hand, getting a small linear map can take a lot of time and usually when you get it, it will spawn like 7,8 packs per run so... xD It is definitely easier to do that stuff now when you have that new runcounter tho ^^

You mean complicated because my 1.14 map is not in a straight line? That doesn't really have a negative effect in my book. It's 4 tiles and none of the massive ones (where you have to kinda zig-zag to be sure not to miss a pack) and no backtracking either. It may not be straight-forward but it's certainly a top 5 map of all the Pit maps I've seen.

IMO even 5 tile maps can be good. They will spawn more bosses than 4 tile maps on average, that's just due to how boss spawning works. Run times will be slightly longer and that's why utra-dense 4 tile maps are ideal. But I would wager there are many 5 tile maps that beat 4-tile maps by frequently upgrading to max boss number on lvl 1.

The real "make or break" question for a top-tier Pit map is lvl 2 in my book. Level 2 is excellent on my 1.14 map where 3 bosses are normal, 4 bosses common and 2 bosses are rare. The greatest level 1 map can still be spoiled by bad lvl 2 density.

But yeah, good Pit map = linear (not necessarily "straight") lvl 1 path with 4 or perhaps 5 tiles + consistently good level 2 density.

You mean complicated because my 1.14 map is not in a straight line? That doesn't really have a negative effect in my book. It's 4 tiles and none of the massive ones (where you have to kinda zig-zag to be sure not to miss a pack) and no backtracking either. It may not be straight-forward but it's certainly a top 5 map of all the Pit maps I've seen.

IMO even 5 tile maps can be good. They will spawn more bosses than 4 tile maps on average, that's just due to how boss spawning works. Run times will be slightly longer and that's why utra-dense 4 tile maps are ideal. But I would wager there are many 5 tile maps that beat 4-tile maps by frequently upgrading to max boss number on lvl 1.

The real "make or break" question for a top-tier Pit map is lvl 2 in my book. Level 2 is excellent on my 1.14 map where 3 bosses are normal, 4 bosses common and 2 bosses are rare. The greatest level 1 map can still be spoiled by bad lvl 2 density.

But yeah, good Pit map = linear (not necessarily "straight") lvl 1 path with 4 or perhaps 5 tiles + consistently good level 2 density.
I was referring to your old map that you had on some barb. It was so long ago that i don't even remember if it was the map you ran on your pitzerker or your singer xD All i remember is that it had some weird teleporting path but turned out to be good in the end.

After checking some videos and posts i think it was the map you had in this video. The one with that devilkin nest i personally hate and that weird dead end at the top.

This is a weird one, cause you can basically call it a 3.5 tile or even 3 tile map if you look at it from a specific angle. That middle part is really odd, cause those 2 dead ends on the right are very small. I even tried to divide it into tiles and it should look like this i guess? xD
It doesn't look like a linear one at first, but you can sort of force it to be linear with specific teleporting path as you mentioned in some post.



I agree with the fact that lvl 2 is really important. It can upgrade your map by a whole tier like from mediocre to good or from good to great.

General rule stays tho. As long as you don't waste time on unnecessary things and get a lot of packs, you good ^^

Ah yeah I thought you meant the second one, because it’s also weird indeed :) yeah that first map was OK but it’s true that the teleport path was a little too much effort. Don’t think I have it anymore.

I originally had Andariel's on the Merc, but the -30% fire res meant he was getting shredded by the hydras. I have a 29% Fire Res JoF which would be great for him, but I'm saving my socket quests for a few more levels.

Kicking is used sparingly - LI Lister, Baal and sometimes straggelers from the waves. If you can get a tight grouping, Fireblast is more effective as it hits multiple monsters at once.

Yeah I had to swap out some gear to get my magic find up. Without Enigma and some other gear (especially War travellers) it really is a bit of a puzzle.

I played on P1 for the two levels of WSK and the beginning of the throneroom. As soon as I entered the throne of destruction I put P5 and blasted away. The PI spawned were a bother but those in WSK on p1 were doable (it took some time to remember to put the game back to P1 when I S&E after the previous run so I encountered them on P5 more then once and that took a lot of time... as did dying in one Baals waves and recovering my corps for the exp).

I found 3 of my top 5 items on the last day, the highest one even in the last 3 runs I did. The best items I found were BK sword and Mavina's true sight. Bot were found on the same run and both on another level of the WSK which made them non-qualifiers (and both had more points than my top 5 of the entire week).

I enjoyed running him and doing Baal runs with that much focus. I found items I can use in other builds (a few skillers, a titans for the furyzon and loads of usefull amulets) completed some sets and got him leveled to 93. The idea is to keep running Baal and Pindle with him to put more levels on him and hopefully find some of the other pieces of gear I really need. Next MFO he will likely be back and hopefully with the gear he was missing now
