DII:LoD Any% Speedruns

Lots of you might be aware of this little community, but I wasn't until recently. I stumbled upon a few YT videos and subsequently some Twitch streams of players competing for world record any% speedruns in DII. It's entertaining to watch, and a very different approach to DII which I find refreshing.

Most of these people seem to be playing Vanilla, Players 1, untwinked HC category. They employ lots of interesting strategies. I reckon an SPFer could potentially innovate for a WR!

For any fans of Awesome Games Done Quick, theyve included Diablo and Diablo 2 a few times. They have mrllamasc doing d2lod any% coming up in 2019

I watched a few a while back, but got bored pretty quickly to be honest. There are bits in there that are worth learning though, map layouts etc... Are they completely vanilla? I know that Llama uses a particular mod in his general gameplay, not sure if he uses it for this though.

MrLLama only uses that particular mod for his Grail character. I watch him regularly and find it really interesting when he does in depth runs or crazy runs. Last week he did a protect andariel 5v3 which was pretty close an interesting.

Its just a different take on the game. When i cant play its nice to watch

There are a few SPFers that do speedruns. @Yng started this thread some time ago and @NanoMist has some pretty fast results on the speed run tables, as well as this thread for twinked runs.

ffs summed it up nicely, and as you can see from the first thread, speedrunning doesn't get much interest here, at least from the participation side. The twinked speedrun thread is just a pet project of mine, although I haven't had time lately for more attempts.

I think lack of time is why most players here seem to prefer to follow speedrunning to doing it themselves. With full-time jobs and families in many cases, I feel people rather spend their limited D2 time on overall progress (farming S&Us, runes, XP...). At least that's the reason for me personally. I do think it's an interesting aspect of the game though.
