Hello all, my first post on the new site, thanks for the directions. I never would have made it otherwise, I'm too old to find it without some nudging... please be gentle to the newbie!
Prologue
Bors and Barloc were barbarian brothers separated by circumstances over many miles. They shared familial ties and remembered fondly their days past, but yearned to once again be warriors together, and this latest invasion of the forces of evil have afforded them an ample opportunity to bond by bashing and berzerking together once again. One brother had traveled to the other kingdoms to gather intelligence and knowledge of the struggle ahead, while the other stayed home to guard Arreat and await news in case of calamity.
Well, calamity came indeed and the brothers were separated by long miles. In their last communique, Bors promised to return home as soon as possible, and Barloc agreed to remain in the highlands, defending their home against vast numbers of invading enemies, and home indeed would be their best location for the reunion, whereupon they would battle together thereafter.
Thus begins the story of the lost barbarian brothers...
I've had this tournament idea rolling around my head for quite some time, even writing it down a couple of years ago, and I found my notes the other day. If the thread title interests you, read on!
Rules:
1. Standard tournament rules are in effect, such as being single pass, hardcore (if you play softcore and die, you can still play but you can't "win"), forum approved mods only, current version (I think that's 1.14D still, right?), ATMA/Gomule. Mods please check if this forum's rules are different - I haven't checked into this yet but will edit if I find I am out of line.
2. You must play a barbarian. No other classes are allowed.
3. Any players setting is acceptable and can be changed at any time. Just stay at /P1 when you're going through previously explored areas; minimize killing and don't pick anything up until reaching new areas.
4. When you obtain the ability to have a companion, you can do so with whatever one you want, until you reach Harrogath. Drop your merc before act V if possible (you don't want to make your brother jealous), but no big deal if Diablo isn't able to kill your merc.
5. When you are able to hire a barbarian merc, pick one and that's your brother. You will hereafter remain inseparable and your brother must accompany you for the rest of the game. If your brother dies, get back to town and have him patched up at the earliest opportunity.
6. You can use anything you can find, gamble, craft, etc. There are no equipment restrictions and no skill restrictions *unless you want bonus points as shown below*.
7. You can go back and use quest rewards whenever you want without any problem. The exception is that you can only re-spec one time in the entire journey and it can only be while your newest area is in NM difficulty (so if you've gone into hell difficulty even a single time and you haven't respecced, that door is closed to you).
Scoring:
1. You get imaginary bonus points to naming your character from the list of act V named barbarians. You also get imaginary bonus points for using the same first letter for both barbarian's names (i.e. Bors and Barloc, or Wiglaf and Wulf). You get yet another level of imaginary bonus points if you max out a skill that starts with the same letter as your brothers. For example, if you pick Bors and Barloc as your team, and you maximize the skill "Bash", then you're at a whole 'nuther level.
Victory Conditions:
1. Kill Hell Baal. I haven't done this personally in a long time. My mouse doesn't work very well any more and I can't remember my hot keys preferences either. I hope to make it into hell.
