Been posting some in the old forum, but I finally found out about the move

My amazon has gained quite a bit of experience, and I am (slowly) pushing for my first 99'er in single player and in HC!

Let's bring this thread back to the first page, shall we?

Now that my HC hammerdin Ned has survived a couple rounds of competition, it's time I formally introduce him here. I'm not technically actively pushing for 99 with him, but assuming he keeps surviving competitions, he has no choice but to get there in the end (with a bit of modification on running strategies, of course).

I created him originally as a competition runner for the areas category of the RFL, to help bolster my rune stash in HC. Long story short, he is built purely to tank the CS and run it safely, efficiently and smoothly. If you want to read more about his build and equipment choices, as they are a bit unconventional, you can do so here in his original introduction and theorycraft post.

His first real stint of leveling took place in RFL2019 Round 3, /p8 Gripp runs. He began the round at 95.5 and ended it around 96.8 finding some nice items like a Death's Web, and of course a Zod (as well as a NDE with just 105 hp left). More details on that set can of course be found here in his results post.

Fast forward to the Finding the Balance Tournament and it was his second chance to have a real go at CS. Again it was /p8 Gripp runs and he managed to stay alive (despite another rather nasty NDE) and power his way through to somewhere around 97.3 and on the good side of the 3B marker.

He found himself his 2nd Zod among other things, so naturally now I'm expecting a Zod in every competition he enrolls himself in.

Though he has also had a NDE in each one, so I'm not sure I like that tradeoff all that much...

So that's where he sits now! Like I said before I'm not actively leveling him to 99 but I will post updates here anytime he makes progress in any of the runefinding competitions, assuming of course he survives.

I am a man of few words, so I don't post much

Mostly interested in 99 races and grailing, so the status tables are the most relevant places for me to visit. I will make some sort of post if she does manage to reach 99, but in general it's just eth titans, spirit, enigma, griffon's (um), 2/20 jav gloves with dex and str, tgods, aldur boots, cats eye, dwarf star and ravenfrost. All charms are res and/or life charms except a single java +12 fhr skiller. I tried running a few different things, but I feel most safe running P1/P7 cs runs at a slower pace, also killing bosses for potential grail items. Seems to work out quite well

Congrats @MadsRJ , I just read your hall of legends post (not sure if comments are allowed there). I used to be a big Nihlathak fan in terms of experience but I think CS is much better after all (especially in terms of drops and safety). Viper clouds can be negated if you stand still or have a lot PDR, especially non % type.

I noticed that you didn't save arreat quest for last level, was that on purpose or you thought that Ball runs will be better in the long run?
Have you considered using Stormshield and going max block since you already had a lot of damage? (I guess FCR is still needed from Spirit)

My HC sorc is on an old PC and I'm seriously considering doing it all from the scratch, it was such an awesome journey. I haven't been playing D2 for a looong time though.

I'm also not that used to these forums, so if the post is it the wrong place, I do apologize (and can remove if need be).
I quite liked CS running her. Have to admit I just didn't dare try Nihla with her. I honestly had forgotten about the ancients quest in hell - after all I hadn't played for something like 15 years until I started 2 years ago

I did consider stormshield, but I felt safe with the Spirit solution. I would have definitely gone stormshield if I had attempted Nihla.

@MadsRJ Huge congrats! Very impressive and I loved the writeup. I think you made the right move with your run targets. Saving ancients isnt thought to be worth it for java since shes so good at baal. And p1/p7 cs seems like the best choice for 98-99 in hc. Im very impressed you survived cs without a high %block. Great job!

Another year, another RFL, another set (well, 1.5 sets) in the CS from Ned and he's reached a proper milestone!

That concludes his 2-seal running. Next time I re-visit him in the CS it will be for some sort of modified Diablo running as he continues his quest to win competitions and pick his way to 99.

Only one NDE so far, though it was a doozy!

A bad teleport without checking the mods first. I may have seen a flash of Conviction from that 2nd bosspack, which would explain the plummeting life better (especially with the LE bolts in the mix too). Also, a bit of a slow reaction on my end to what was happening.

In the end no harm done, and a nice little reminder to not get too complacent.

My Barbarian, Kyle, reached level 98 last night, so I'm updating here

I have decided to give Nihlatak a shot for the remaining grind, but as this is HC, I will definitely need a rebuild with focus being on survivability rather than speed. Any thoughts are welcome. And does anyone know if dr circlet/coronet/tiara is best obtained through gambling?

Nice! I think the general consensus is:
- lots of helath
- integer pdr
- use Concentrate for an uninterruptable attack
- If you can run without a merc you lower your viper risk by a huge factor since you don't get the bugged clouds bouncing between the two of you.

Agree with Pb_pal. With Beast offhand, might from the merc may not be as critical, so in HC may be worth a shot to see how the runs feel.

My guy made it through without a death somehow through early phase, but he was quite solid and safe once I got the hang of the rolls and map, particularly after rolling for one with limited spawns around the platform.

Also, I realized the untwinked 99er thread, this one, and hall of heroes have gotten out of sync on completed 99ers. I have on my to-do list to tidy that up, and I will check with @maxicek about options for updating the hall of legends thread to capture new 99ers in correct chronological order.

Woah boys are we back on the frontpage here with this here thread? Most epic thread of all time makin its way downtown for the first time since MAY?! I can't let this go to waste.

Okay boys well I dropped my UT sorc in favor of playing my friggin like 10 year old lvl 97 sorc with all the bomb ass gear I found over the years, simply because I feel as though it'll make a more epic 99er post plus of course all the sentimental value the character has to me. What gear you ask?! Well you'll have to wait till I actually do it for the full reveal because hoo boy it's a big boy sorc it's HUGE. You might not believe me and I'm not trying to hype it up but my line of thinking is "most powerful character in d2 of ALL TIME". Yeah, you heard that right. There might be some who disagree but they'd be wrong. I'll post this pic up and see if maybe those of you who are savvy and also interested want to take a stab at it:

So anyways, my 99er is a lightning sorc (yawwn), with my own personal twist.

The story picks up with me picking up the game again in D2R. I transferred my 97 lightning sorc "Lore" over to D2R and did some baals to see how it was. Then I played my UT 99er. Then I decided to play Lore again. I needed a torch, so I started doing key runs on Lore to farm that up. I had never done nihlithak runs before.. but it was feeling pretty easy right up until I instantly died to some bullcrap bugged poison clouds and then started clenching my buttcheeks a little more tightly while running, no deaths since then. I farmed a decent torch, then started up baal running again since it was much faster for leveling. Right now I'm just over 30% and decided 30% was enough progress to warrant a post considering this thread is on the frontpage again.

Future plans: Tons of baal running until 98 then nihlathak. Timeline I'm shooting for is finishing before next summer (Juneish) I'm racing the clock since my wife's got a bun in the oven.
