On the off chance that some shopping/racking pros and/or numbers guys read this... :)

How do I best go about looking for a base for Obsession (new D2R runeword), namely something like this:
  • War Staff/Rune Staff/Archon Staff
  • non-magical, obviously
  • staff mods up to/including lvl 24 skills
IIRC runeword bases with higher skill tiers cannot be shopped, can someone confirm?

Can it be racked? I've been racking a lot of armor pieces but never paid attention as to whether staves dropped at all. :rolleyes:

I'm in no rush and I just assume I'll do a lot of area running such as Pit/cows, but if it can be farmed more easily that would be good to know.

I’m actually a bit curious what the ideal base for "Obsession" would be. Something like +3 Lightning Mastery, +3 Chain Lightning, and+3 Lightning? Though the chances of that dropping have to be one in a bazillion. Probably even at +3 LM and +3 of one of those others would be an insane find.

I am mostly looking for Blizzard and Nova on such a staff and perhaps Fire Ball. Those are the go-to Sorc skills for farming purposes, and I'd like it to be somewhat versatile and not confined to a single build. Masteries wouldn't be ideal in my book, a few extra points barely add damage to lightning/fire skills and CM can be fine tuned easily via hard points.

I'm not holding my breath for some crazy good base. Having racked claws a lot, I know how rare great staffmod bases are even with racking. Personally I'll pull the trigger once I get +3 to one of the above skills with hopefully any points in any of the other skills.

I want to keep 75 FCR and either need to re-roll spirit to get 35% FCR or keep my ammy and one ring the same. I have maybe one Hel and the runes for spirit 1 or 2 more times. I am using an Ancients pledge in an @25 pally shield. I would love to make spirit in an elite pally shield but no luck on base drops yet.

I have lore for a helmet. I have hotspur, tearhaunch, and a rare with 30% RW and @ ~30 to cold and poison. I have some pretty unimpressive rings with single resists and life mods or mana.
I have a suicide branch too.

Any other high-yield items to have in place before venturing into Hell? Thanks for any insights!

Liv has cleared Duriel and is on to act III. Lowered to p1 for sanity reasons and shes still clearing at a relatively good pace. Theodoric needs an armor upgrade (i have a 4 socket lacquered plate and waiting on runes for either fortitude or stone). Found the below in the spider forest.

I would love to make spirit in an elite pally shield but no luck on base drops yet.
Gear looks pretty solid! If the chance arises, I'd probably make Spirit it in any auric shield with a decent res all since the block rates aren't that better for elite shields, e.g., Gilded and Zakarum are the same. Elite paladin shields don't drop that often, especially in NM.

I recently respec'd a barb into a Pitzerker build in my quest to find the elusive DWeb. I re-rolled his Pit map until I found a linear one, and it's the smallest I can remember seeing.

The problem is that it doesn't seem to have many boss packs on level 1. In a post by Nightfish, he listed level 1 of the Pit as having 5-8 boss packs. I've been going through every inch of it slowly and counting a few times, and have counted as few as 3 boss packs on level 1 (Champs included).

Is it possible for level 1 of the Pit to spawn as few as 3 boss packs, or am I mistaken? Whether or no, I am going to re-roll for one that has more packs consistently.

Edit: most of the time it has 5 packs, sometimes 6 or 7. It's a fast map (boss packs usually in the bottom two thirds), so maybe I should keep it?

How can you play Pitzerker on a console? :D

4 tile maps are not that rare but ones that also have very high density are.

Pit 1 has a maximum of 8 bosses, but champions count individually towards this limit. So if you spawn 2 champion packs with 4 monsters each, and no other nearby monster got upgraded simultaneously, you can have as little as 2 bosses in an individual run. But that should be a rare occurrence.

Bosses are (mostly) randomly upgraded from normal monsters with 80% chance of being unique and 20% of being a champion pack, with each monster pack having a 6% chance to be upgraded IIRC, with chances increasing the more you explore the map. I say "mostly" random because there are some weird superseding seeds which to my knowledge are still not fully "solved", some packs/locations have a higher chance of being upgraded to bosses.

The short version is: You just want a lot of monsters generally as they are (mostly) randomly upgraded bosses. Many monsters = many boss packs, in the long run.
 
Thanks @ffs , that cleared up a lot! I wasn't counting each champion individually, which I should have and now feel a bit foolish. :ROFLMAO:

I think this is a better map than I realized, and the density is concentrated in the bottom two thirds with hardly ever a pack past the devilkin nest. I'll run it some more before deciding whether or not to pull the plug.

As for playing a Pitzerker on my Xbox... yeah, not the best for precise teleports I'll admit. :p But I'm stubborn as :poop:!!

Ran a paladin from start to patriach on /p5 the entire way and found only one exceptional unique and trang's gloves for drops. 59% mf isn't the most every but you'd think I'd at least mess up and find a single EU or something. Got an Ist from the forge, at least.

So I farmed a lot of runes from LK recently. In the past I've made CoH, Infinity, Engima, Fortitude, Grief, CtA, and some other essentials like Smiter Gear (Exile). With this batch of runes I want to do the following:
-Roll 2 more Griefs (the 2 Los I have)
-Beast BA
-Another CTA
-Reroll Death in an Eth Decapitator until I get nice ED to use with a Charger, and a Fury Druid, since off-weapon IAS works now.

Any other Runewords I should be looking at for this batch or future batches of runes? Someday I'd like to have dual Dreams, but I am loathe to cube up Surs and Bers from LK: I will run Cows, Trav, etc., for some Jahs.

I'm not sure of other RWs that should take priority... the two that come to mind are Faith and HotO, though I'm not sure that I'd really use them in immediate future. Phoenix at some point. I have a Javazon, Pitzerker, full Tal's Blizz Sorc, and Uber Smiter, so I can farm most areas decently at this point. Most the RWs seem to fall more into the fun / luxury category (e.g. dual Dreams, etc.) but not so much the essentials for ideal farming of various areas, so I guess I'm just open to ideas and hoping I'm not missing something obvious.

Just do a runeword grail project? I plan to do one when I’m done with all (probably) sets
 
A random creature in act I Hell dropped this in front of the Zerker. Pretty bad roll, so maybe I'll find another one later on and otherwise we'll just gonna use it for the 5% exp bonus at some point.

Other usefull finds were mostly runes with an Um as best find. He's slowly strolling throught act I on P7 at the moment. It's not too hard, his killspeed is rather high so that makes him really fun to play. He is also a part of my sept so I might just go on and get him through the game and keep less focus on other builds at the moment.
